Disturbing, powerful and beautiful. Today we’ll look at 20 of the most artistic Christian cd covers which I think many of us haven’t seen before. Not your typical Christian design, with the stereotype divine light shinning down from heaven, these artworks have solid concepts, imagery, and/or illustration.

This is the first set in a series of Christian album artwork. The next series will feature album artworks with the most beautiful use of photography. Stay tuned and follow us through Twitter, Facebook, Rss.

  1. Why do you have to point out that they’re christian, you religious fascist?

  2. Anna, my aim is to inspire others with original content on my blog. Not many designers have explored “christian” designs before and I haven’t seen these fabulous artwork featured before, so why not showcase some? I think these cd artworks are very inspiring and have some strong concepts that every designer can benefit from. Cheers!

  3. Some great choices, love “Our World Redeemed” some of these don’t even look like “Christian Artwork” more like on the Rock Gothic side of things, but interpretation is everything when it comes to art. I did a similar post on inspiks, if you want to check it out. http://www.inspiks.com/absolutely-stunning-christian-album-art/

@Anna, why not point out that they are “Christian”? why not? do you have to be a religious facist (radical and authoritarian nationalist political ideology.) why can’t we share our faith or things about our faith? has religion, belief in God or may I say Christians done something bad to you? and if so, what is the problem?

  4. Hi Ioswl, indeed many of these don’t look like “Christian” Artwork, which is what I wanted to show. Though I’m not a big fan of Rock Gothic, I think it would be boring if all “Christian” Artwork are predictable.

I had a look at your post, yes these are some great Cd Covers too! In fact some of them I already planned to cover in my part 2 about Portraits in Christian Album Covers!

  5. I agree with you, Christian art should not be boring and predictable, I think that is actually one of the problems with Christian Art, but I see many artist thinking outside the box and trying to conceptualize their artwork instead of just placing the artist photo on the cover with the name of the CD, that can be dull!

The only problem (and this might be personal) is that when I look at some of the more Gothic/hardcore Rock types of art, it immediately gives a sense of darkness, which may be taking away from the message of Christ(which is light) or pushing some people away; but in the same thought, it could be puling those that like that type of art, kind of a two edged sword if you see what I mean :)

  6. Loswl, I’m with you. I personally think that having snakes and skulls are quite extreme for a Christian artwork.

I’ve seen some controversial debates about Christian artists who use skulls in their artwork. Their point was that the skulls represented death and they wanted to show the contrast between life and death. With Christ giving life. I think this can be a powerful message if it is well executed but in many case the message of hope wasn’t very obvious.

But as you said these Cds with the metal/gothic look have their specific target audience. If this works for them, why not? :)

  7. NEAT POST!! I actually HAVE every single one of those albums, mainly because the designs attracted me :) the Christy Nockels one is in the back of my head a LOT when I do any designs with that sunburst type thing :)

  8. Hmm… I find gothic rock intruiging even though I’ve checked out its origins and what it’s usually meant to portray but I totally agree that the portrayal of life vs death, light vs dark can be brought out strongly due to the stark contrasts. I tried that for a church camp T-shirt once but I suppose the people have not been exposed to such alternative Christian art and weren’t open to it. It would take a long time before they would be more open to new things.

  9. Thanks Alyssa, wow you sure have a lot of cds! Lol you must really like sunburst designs :)

  10. May I’d love to see your t-shirt :)

  11. Our world redeemed is my favorite… I think…
I love the “Rising sun” brush family, so I really really like “Life Light Up”…

Hawk Nelson’s album has a nice look too… probably vectors and stuff…
    Great post…

  12. Great CD Covers! I was wondering if you have or could scan and e-mail the CD covers of Rodrigo Rodriguez “Inspired by You” and “The Prayer” for my I-tunes album work, the quality of the ones I have is very poor

    Thanks and God bless

    Eduardo

  13. Becoming The Archetype is a band with some incredible original christian inspired cover art. Check em out.
